Human remains found on property of recently sold home in Apple Valley

Homicide detectives launched an investigation Friday after a homebuyer discovered human skeletal remains on a just-purchased property in Apple Valley, authorities said.

The grisly discovery was first reported about 8:30 p.m. June 26 at a house in the 19500 block of Crest Drive, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department records.

“The property had been recently purchased, and while walking around the location, the reporting party discovered human remains,” sheriff’s officials said in a written statement.

Deputies secured the scene and called for assistance from the Sheriff’s Homicide Detail and San Bernardino County coroner’s officials.

“[Investigators] searched the area and collected multiple bones,” the statement said.

“A preliminary examination revealed no obvious signs of trauma to the remains,” it added. “An autopsy will be conducted, while additional information is pending DNA results for the identification of the remains.”

No further information was released.
