The 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles are about two and a half years away, but for fans who want to attend the games, the ticket-acquiring process is now officially under way.
And for Olympic buffs who live in the Coachella Valley, there’s some good news. Residents of Riverside County are eligible to be part of a “locals presale” that is only offered to counties in and around Los Angeles and Oklahoma City where the Games will be played.
Who’s eligible for the 2028 Summer Olympics locals presale?
In Southern California, the eligible counties are Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura. This will allow residents of the Coachella Valley who win the draw to purchase tickets, a five day early-presale window (April 2-6) to chose your events and times ahead of the general sale, which begins April 9.
Here is everything you need to know to be part of that pre-sale that will accompany what they are calling “Drop 1” of tickets to the 2028 Games.
How to get tickets to LA 28, the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles
Step one, register: Ticket acquisition requires you to register for a ticket draw between Jan. 14 and March 18. Fill out a form, choose which Olympic sports you want to see most and enter. If selected, from the draw, you will receive a time slot to purchase tickets during the drop or presale.
Step two, the time slot: Yuo will be notified by email between March 31 and April 7 if you received a time slot for the drop or presale.
Step three, time to shop: Purchase the tickets (up to 12) during your assigned time slot. For those in the LA Locals Presale (which includes Riverside County) that purchasing window will be April 2-6. Rest of the world will begin purchasing April 9-19, which is when Drop 1 concludes.
You didn’t get selected: Don’t worry, after you have registered for the first drop, you will automatically be entered into the draw for subsequent drops.
How much are Olympic tickets?
Naturally that varies based on the event and time, but tickets for many events during the presale begin at $28.
I live in one of the presale counties, will I automatically get early access to tickets?
No, living in the qualifying billing postal codes and registering for the ticket draw does not guarantee you’ll get a presale time slot.
If I register for the presale and don’t get it, do I also have register for the general sale?
No, if you don’t receive a time slot in the locals presale, you will be automatically be entered into the draw for general tickets.
When is the Olympics in LA?
July 14 to July 30, 2028 with Los Angeles as the host city, but some events will be in Oklahoma City
Did you say Oklahoma City?
Yes, Oklahoma City will host the softball competition as well as the canoe slalom competition because they have venues ideally suited for those events. All other competition will take place in Southern California.
