Hesperia man killed in solo-car crash

A Hesperia man died after his car struck a utility pole along Third Avenue on Saturday night, authorities said.

Xavier Blackmon, 35, died in the crash, which took place about 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 5 in a residential neighborhood in the 8400 block of Third Avenue, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office.

First responders arrived at the scene to find a silver sedan had collided with an electric pole, sheriff’s department spokeswoman Jenny Smith said.

The driver was thrown from the car in the impact, according to agency spokes Karina Zepeda. The electrical pole subsequently caught fire.

Paramedics performed CPR, but Blackmon died from his injuries at a local hospital, officials said.
