The city of Stockton announced a new Republic Services residential trash collection schedule Friday afternoon.
Republic Services will continue limited residential trash collection services on Friday, as they work on collecting trash regularly collected on Tuesday and Wednesday, city officials stated in a Facebook post. Republic Services is working to empty trash carts for both days by Saturday, July 12.
Stockton customers whose trash carts are still full and are on the regular Tuesday or Wednesday collection days should immediately notify Republic Services at (209) 466-3604, city officials said.
According to city officials, additional trash bags placed inside or next to the trash cart will also be picked up by Republic Services.
“Republic Services is not collecting recycling or organics carts at this time. Customers should remove them from the curb until further instructions are given,” city officials said in a Facebook post on Friday. “Republic Services and the City will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available. Thank you for your continued patience.”

Why are Republic Services employees on strike?
Waste pickup collection delays for Stockton residents started on Tuesday when sanitation workers, members of the Teamsters Local 439 employed by Republic Services, went on strike in an effort to reach an agreement with the company.
Matt McQuaid, communications project manager at International Brotherhood of Teamsters, told The Stockton Record via email on Wednesday that the Teamsters Local 439 are asking for “a living wage that’s consistent with industry standards, affordable and accessible health care, and fair work rules.”

“Republic Services is in contract negotiations with IBT 439, the union representing some of our employees at Forward Landfill. Those employees are engaged in a temporary work stoppage and are picketing at other Republic Services locations in the area,” Republic Services officials said in a statement previously. “As a result, we anticipate temporary service delays for some recycling and waste collection customers in the area.”
As of Friday morning, Teamsters Local 439 and Republic Services had not reached an agreement, McQuaid said.
