The Los Angeles Rams are months away from their season opener, but even with such a gap between now and then, the narratives and storylines are already starting to form. In their Week 2 matchup, the Rams are set to host the Giants, and recent news suggests New York could be without one of its biggest stars.
Pro Bowler Malik Nabers suffered a torn ACL last season and the timetable for his return remains unclear. Giants head coach John Harbaugh described Nabers’ issue as “not a simple knee” injury, speaking in-depth about the situation.
“He’s in the middle of it,” Harbaugh said, via ESPN’s Jordan Raanan. “It’s such a hard thing. It’s an ACL, and whatever else he had in that knee. Not a simple knee [injury], you know? So, um, he’s in the slog of it, the grind of it, I would say. So, he’s fighting through it, and he’s here every day working hard at it.
“Just impossible to predict. I mean, the goal is to start the season and get out there sometime in training camp. That’d be the goal, and we’ll see what happens.”
Harbaugh seems to be accepting the reality that Nabers might not be available for the start of the season.
“If he’s out there, great. [If] he’s not out there, great. You know, we’ll be ready to go either way,” Harbaugh said. “But I know he’s fighting like crazy to do his best to be out there, and he’s with the guys every day.”
If Nabers continues to struggle in his recovery, he could miss the contest against the Rams. The Giants could also place Nabers on injured reserve. If it comes to that point, Nabers would miss the first four games of the season, including the contest against Los Angeles.
