North Gene Autry Trail and North Indian Canyon Drive at the wash reopened Monday, May 4 after closing overnight due to low visibility from blowing sand.
The National Weather Service forecasted strong winds in the Coachella Valley on Monday, which will also bring cooler weather to start off the week before warming up once more. Windy weather, frequent in the valley, often closes major roadways as it reduces visibility in areas surrounded by desert sand.
Palm Springs announced the closures on North Gene Autry Trail, between Salvia Road and Via Escuela, and on North Indian Canyon Drive, between Sunrise Parkway and Garnet Avenue, Sunday evening. The city’s police department said North Gene Autry Trail was open again near 9 a.m. and North Indian Canyon Drive was open again near 10:30 a.m. on Monday.
