A driver involved in a single-vehicle crash on State Route 118 in Somis Dec. 7 was transported to the hospital by helicopter.
The Ventura County Fire Department and California Highway Patrol officers responded to the crash on Los Angeles Avenue, also known as the 118, and La Vista Avenue shortly after 3 p.m. and found the vehicle in a ditch. The incident on the westbound side of the road happened near Mesa Union School.
Fire crews found the man in the vehicle, and he needed to be cut free from it. The patient was flown to Ventura County Medical Center in stable condition but with moderate injuries, said fire spokesman Andrew Dowd. No one else was in the vehicle, Dowd said.
CHP Officer Richard Castañon said traffic alternated from east and west through the area for nearly 2 ½ hours until about 5:30 p.m. Officers were still on scene as of 5:45 p.m. awaiting the arrival of the tow truck, he said.
The cause of the crash was still under investigation, he said. A CHP officer went to the hospital to follow up with the patient, Castañon said.
