COS sports notes: Giants football returns home to host Redwoods Saturday

The improving College of the Sequoias football team will be home on Sept. 20, hosting College of the Redwoods at 11 a.m. at Sequoias Stadium. COS is currently ranked No. 16 in the state and seventh in Northern California.

Sequoias moved to 2-1 on the season with a 28-14 win at San Jose City College on Sept. 13. It was the 12th straight win over the Jaguars.

This will be the first-ever meeting between COS and Redwoods.

Soccer

The women’s soccer team, coming off its first win, will open Central Valley Conference play on Sept. 19 by hosting Fresno at 1 p.m. at the stadium.

Sequoias is 1-3-1 overall.

The Giant men’s team tied Bakersfield on Sept. 16 to improve to 1-3-3 for the year, and will play again on Sept. 19 at Monterey Peninsula.

Volleyball

The Giant volleyball team is 9-2 overall, and winners of five straight, after a victory on Sept. 17 at the Los Medanos tri-meet.

COS travels on Sept. 20 to Ohlone to face Sacramento and Ohlone.

Sequoias will be on the road the next two weeks, before returning home on Oct. 3 to host Taft at 6 p.m.

In the latest state rankings poll, COS is ranked 17th in the state and No. 6 in Northern California.
