There were plenty of champions from all different levels and age groups — highlighted by a mother-daughter winner and the first Big Ten Conference men’s crown — at the 124th Ojai Tennis Tournament.
It was a big week for Thousand Oaks at The Ojai, which concluded on Sunday, April 26.
Thousand Oaks High graduate Sam Querrey, who won 10 singles championships and five doubles titles on the ATP Tour, was the “Tournament Honoree” and was celebrated at special fundraising event on Friday, April 24.
Dina McBride and her daughter Jordyn McBride of Thousand Oaks captured the Women’s Open Doubles title. The duo defeated Frances Angelica Santiago and Liz Chileno of Ojai in the final, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.
James Borchard of Thousand Oaks lived up to his top seed, rolling to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Desmond Tober-Bridges of Goleta in the Boys’ 12s championship match.
In the debut of the Big Ten Conference’s men’s postseason tournament at The Ojai, top-seeded Michigan State defeated second-seeded Ohio State, 4-3, to capture the title.
Second-seeded Theodore Dean of Livermore earned a 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (5) victory over top-seeded Matija Pecotic of West Palm Beach, Florida, in the Men’s Open Singles final.
Ed Nava of Woodland Hills and Ernesto Escobedo of Los Angeles secured the Men’s Open Doubles title with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 win over Chethan Swanson of Folsom and Cayden Laughton of Portland, Oregon.
Top-seeded Chanel Simmonds of San Diego defeated third-seeded Jordyn McBride, 6-1, 6-3, in the Women’s Open Singles final.
Top-seeded Matteo Huarte of Mater Dei beat second-seeded Brayden Tallakson of Woodbridge, 7-6 (3), 6-1, to win the Boys’ CIF Singles title.
Top-seeded Colin Bringas and Edward Feuer of Peninsula captured the Boys’ CIF Doubles title with a 6-4, 6-2 win over third-seeded Aaron Chung and Chase Klugo of Harvard-Westlake.
Top-seeded Eli Villaroma of Santa Ana defeated eighth-seeded Quintin Alberto Suarez Trapero of Ojai, 6-3, 6-3, in the Boys’ 14s Singles final.
Top-seeded Chance Rozpedski of Palm Desert beat third-seeded Daksh Bharadwaj of San Diego, 6-0, 6-1, in Boys’ 16s Singles final.
Top-seeded Carlota Tarazaga Diaz of Irvine secured the Girls’ 12s Singles title with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Claire Kang of Rancho Palos Verdes.
Second-seeded Charlotte Ackad of San Clemente defeated Eva Deng of Ojai, 6-0, 6-7 (3), 6-3, in the Girls’ 14s Singles final.
Second-seeded Olivia Gallaway of Lafayette won the Girls’ 16s Singles title by defeating fourth-seeded Avery Johnson of Newport Coast, 6-2, 6-4.
Top-seeded Sophia Lee of Eastvale beat Chloe Egerer of Moorpark, 6-0, 6-3, in the Girls’ 18s Singles final.
Second-seeded Eva Deng of Ojai and Olivia Gallway of Lafayette defeated third-seeded Julia Cross of Newport Beach and Avery Johnson of Newport Coast, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, in the Girls’ 18s Doubles final.
Irvine Valley College defeated Foothill College, 5-0, to win the Men’s California Community College Athletic Association Dual Team State Championship.
Los Angeles Mission College defeated Sierra College, 5-4, to win the Women’s California Community College Athletic Association Dual Team State Championship.
Second-seeded Philip Neuman of Irvine Valley College defeated teammate Steven Anderson, 7-6 (4), 6-3, to capture the Men’s California Community College Athletic Association State Singles Championship.
Nevin McCann and Bradley Yung of Irvine Valley College defeated Caua Coimrba and Abladj Mondroha of Ventura College, 6-4, 6-4, to win the Men’s California Community College Athletic Association State Doubles Championship.
Top-seeded Mina Koloski of Chabot College beat second-seeded Emma Chodur of the College of the Canyons, 7-5, 6-3, to win the Women’s California Community College Athletic Association State Singles Championship.
Jaelyn Rivera and Priscilla Grinner of Los Angeles Mission College defeated top-seeded Mina Koloski and Gracie Barco of Chabot College, 6-7 (6), 6-1, 7-6 (11), to win the Women’s California Community College Athletic Association State Doubles Championship.
