Chargers training camp: Who stood out during Week 1?

That being said, there are some standouts for the Bolts in the early going.

Here are four of them.

WR Brenen Thompson

The rookie wide receiver has quickly turned heads by injecting massive speed into the offense. He made multiple plays, including a sliding catch and several deep receptions, and drew strong praise from quarterback Justin Herbert, who highlighted Thompson’s playmaking ability.

S Genesis Smith

Competing for the third safety role alongside players like Tony Jefferson and R.J. Micken, the former Arizona product showcased his deep-field range ball skills, making multiple plays early on. “He’s been really impressive so far,” defensive coordinator Chris O’Leary said.

EDGE Akheem Mesidor

The first-round pick from Miami has looked explosive and twitchy, notably splitting a double team for what would have been a tackle for loss on Day 1. With Tuli Tuipulotu holding in amid contract talks, Mesidor has gotten first-team edge reps and continued flashing. Safety Derwin James praised his explosiveness and get-off.

RB Keaton Mitchell

Mitchell has shown the explosiveness and speed that made him a unique offensive weapon in prior seasons. Herbert connected with him on a deep sideline completion early on, and Mitchell looked smooth ripping off a sizable run in team period.
