The Chargers continued their training camp at The Bolt on Thursday. Throughout the 90-minute session, QB1 made his presence felt in team drills.
According to the team’s official website, Justin Herbert had a deep sideline completion to running back Keaton Mitchell, then hit wide receiver Quentin Johnston over the middle against double coverage, then it that same area of the field to Tre’ Harris and Ladd McConkey, and capped it with a deep crosser to rookie Brenen Thompson.
Herbert’s dominance should come as no surprise, but it is highly encouraging. Over the past few months, he has had to alter his foundational mechanics for new coordinator Mike McDaniel’s system, which have included his footwork and stricter rhythm and anticipation.
While it’s still early, Herbert appears to be playing fast, free, and looks entirely capable of putting together an MVP-caliber campaign in this new-look offense.
