Chargers rumors: Quentin Johnston could be on trade block

Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston could be traded ahead of the 2026 season.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, there are rumblings that the former first-round pick could be dealt.

“Also, Brown isn’t the only receiver potentially available. Baltimore’s Rashod Bateman, Los Angeles’ Quentin Johnston and Green Bay’s Dontayvion Wicks have come up in my talks,” Fowler writes.

Johnston was poised to be the face of the Chargers’ wide receiver corps when he was drafted by the team in 2023. He was known for his dominant big plays at TCU, thanks to his elite 6-foot-3 frame. He was a first-team All-Big 12 selection and a key playmaker for the 2022 CFP runner-up team, the Horn Frogs.

Johnston finished his final season at TCU with 60 receptions for 1,069 yards and six touchdowns.

While his play was dominant in college, Johnston’s performance in the NFL hasn’t lived up to expectations as a former first-round pick. The 24-year-old has struggled to become a consistent target with the Chargers and has been tagged with the reputation of dropping passes in critical moments.

In 2025, Johnston recorded 51 receptions on 735 yards with eight touchdowns. The Chargers drafted the wideout with the intention of Johnston becoming their biggest star, but his production has unfortunately not been there.

The Chargers then drafted Ladd McConkey in 2024, signaling the team was looking for another young wide receiver to breakout in LA. In 2024, Johnston recorded 55 receptions for 711 yards with eight scores, which was an improvement from his rookie year but didn’t outperform McConkey, who had a monster rookie season.

Flash forward to this offseason, it appears the Chargers believe Johnston has hit his ceiling, thus the team might be looking to trade the wideout.
