A Camarillo man died after being shot, and a male suspect later died by suicide after a lengthy vehicle pursuit on Jan. 31, according to authorities.
At around 11:46 a.m., deputies responded to a call of a shooting on the 400 block of Walker Avenue in Camarillo, according to a Ventura County Sheriff’s Office news release. The sheriff’s office provides police services for the city of Camarillo.
Deputies found a 48-year-old man from Camarillo suffering from gunshot wounds and both deputies and Ventura County Fire Department personnel tried to save him but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, the release says.
The male suspect’s vehicle was located, and sheriff’s patrol personnel tried to stop the vehicle but instead a pursuit traveling southbound on Highway 101 started, the release says.
California Highway Patrol officers positioned themselves to take over the pursuit but sheriff’s patrol personnel lost track of the suspect’s vehicle while traveling at speeds of more than 100 mph, the release says.
Los Angeles Police Department officers later found the suspect vehicle driving southbound on Highway 405, the release says. “The suspect eventually yielded and sometime after stopping, took his own life while inside the vehicle,” the release says.
Investigation of the incident is ongoing, the sheriff’s office said.
