A 62-year-old male bicyclist from Oxnard is dead after being struck by a semi-truck in Oxnard on Sept. 25.
Officers with the Oxnard Police Department responded just north of the Simon Way and Vineyard Avenue intersection in the neighborhood of El Rio shortly after 10 a.m. after receiving a call about a collision, said police Sgt. Martin Cook.
A cyclist had been struck in the northbound Vineyard Avenue lanes by a vehicle also going northbound, Cook said. The semi-truck hit the cyclist, causing the man to fall, according to authorities. The driver, a 55-year-old Oxnard resident, stayed to assist the downed cyclist.
The cyclist was taken to the Ventura County Medical Center in critical condition on Sept. 25 and died from injuries, authorities said.
Northbound lanes of Vineyard Avenue, starting from Simon Way, were closed during the investigation. Commuters heading north on the major roadway, also known as State Route 232, were being redirected east and westbound on Simon.
Authorities are asking for anyone with information on the collision to contact Corporal Manuel Perez at (805) 385-7750 or email manuel.perez@oxnardpd.org or Oxnard Police Department at (805) 385-7600.
