Palm Springs police have arrested a 53-year-old man accused in the apparently “unprovoked” stabbing of a man who was walking on the CV Link trail on New Year’s Eve.
Jacob Masters, 53, of Palm Springs was arrested on Sunday, Jan. 11, in the 5600 block of East Ramon Road and booked on suspicion of attempted murder and resisting an officer.
Police say Masters stabbed a man on the CV Link trail between Golf Club Drive and Cathedral Canyon Drive.
According to an account of the incident posted to social media by the Palm Springs Police Department, the victim had been walking on the trail at around 11:30 a.m. when he made eye contact with Masters. Around 15 minutes later, as the victim headed toward home, police say Masters put on a ski mask and yelled profanities while assaulting the victim.
The victim fought back and Masters fled on foot, according to police. The man then went to a hospital where he learned he’d been stabbed.
“At this time, the incident appears to be an unprovoked attack,” police said in their post. “The suspect did not demand property, and the motive remains under investigation.”
