The Shasta County Coroner announced the name of a man found dead with stab wounds in a transitional living home in Redding earlier in September.
He was 42-year-old Cy Jonathon Johnson, the coroner’s office said in a report issued Monday, Sept. 29.
Johnson, formerly of Anderson, was on probation and living at Stability Solutions transitional housing facility on Aruba Drive — the same facility as the man police say they suspect stabbed him, according to the Redding Police Department.
He and 26-year-old Matthew Jacob Riddle, also on probation, got into a fist fight before 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 23, after Riddle falsely accused Johnson “of being a registered sex offender,” police reported last Thursday.
Officers allege Riddle returned and stabbed Johnson multiple times and taunted him while other residents tried to assist the injured man, according to police.

When police arrived, first responders took Johnson to Mercy Medical Center where he died from his injuries, the coroner said. Johnson’s name was withheld from the public while police notified his family.
Police arrested Riddle as he was walking away from the area. He was booked into the Shasta County Jail on Saturday, Sept. 27, on suspicion of murder and domestic violence. His bail increased and, as of Monday afternoon, is set at $1 million and $1,000, according to computerized county jail records.
The coroner’s office announced it will schedule a postmortem examination.
This case remains under investigation by Redding Police and the Shasta County Coroner’s Office. Anyone with information about the case can call Redding Police Sgt. Josiah Ferrin at 530-225-4214.
