A 76-year-old woman died last Friday, May 1, after her motorcycle crashed in south Redding, according to the Shasta County Coroner’s Office.
Monica Marie Martin of Guntersville, Alabama, was driving near the northbound Knighton Road off ramp of Interstate 5 when she crashed, the coroner’s office said Wednesday, May 6.
The area is at the south end of Churn Creek Road, near the Arco station.
First responders took Martin to Mercy Medical Center in Redding, Chief Deputy Coroner Kyle Wallace said in a public announcement. Medical staff declared her dead before 6:30 p.m.

The coroner’s office did a postmortem examination, Wallace said, and only released Martin’s name after officers contacted her next of kin to tell them she died.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, the coroner’s office said.
The case remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office and the California Highway Patrol, Wallace said.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the coroner’s office at 530-225-5551.
