A big rig crossed into opposing traffic lanes and struck a pickup truck along Palmdale Road on Tuesday, killing a 71-year-old Adelanto woman, authorities said.
The fatal crash took place just before 7:40 a.m. Aug. 18 on Palmdale Road near Richardson Road, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials.
The victim, whose identity was yet to be released, was traveling west in a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck prior to the wreck, investigators said.
“Through investigation, deputies learned the driver of a semi-truck who was traveling eastbound, lost control and swerved into the westbound lane, colliding with a Chevy Silverado,” sheriff’s officials said in a written statement.
The woman driving the pickup truck died at the scene.
A 60-year-old man at the wheel of the big rig was taken to a hospital, where he was in “stable” condition, the statement added.
“The [Sheriff’s] Major Accident Investigation Team is seeking assistance from anyone who may have witnessed the collision,” the statement said.
