The University of Michigan has a new president whose sister is a famous actress.
Vanderbilt University Provost C. Cybele Raver, who was named as the candidate to be the 17th president of UM by the Board of Regents on Tuesday, is the sister of Kim Raver, who stars on ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy,” which has been on television for more than 20 years.
Kim Raver has been playing the role of cardio-thoracic surgeon Dr. Theodora Grace “Teddy” Altman since 2005.
“She was originally intended to only portray a new recurring character, but was promoted to a series-regular before the end of that season,” according to IMDb, an internet database for movies, television shows and entertainment industry data.
Before that, Kim Raver portrayed a paramedic, Kimberly “Kim” Zambrano, on the NBC crime show “Third Watch” from 1999 to 2005.
C. Cybele, or Cassandra Cybele, grew up in New York City with her sister, Kim, and was raised by their German-born mother, Tina Raver, according to IMDb. Chris Meltesen is their stepfather.
Kim made her debut as a child actress in “Sesame Street,” the PBS children’s TV show, in 1975, according to Kim Raver’s IMDb biography. She is fluent in French and German, according to IMDB.
C. Cybele began as Vanderbilt’s provost in July 2021 after serving as deputy provost at New York University, where she also served as the inaugural director of NYU’s Institute of Human Development and Social Change, according to a National Academy of Education biography.
“It is an extraordinary honor to be considered as the University of Michigan’s 17th president at this pivotal moment in higher education,” C. Cybele Raver said in a statement released by the University of Michigan. “Michigan’s scale and impact across research, education, economic growth and public service are unmatched, and I’m eager to build on its remarkable legacy. I look forward to working alongside faculty, staff, students and alumni to lead Michigan forward with clarity and confidence.”
