Adam Schefter shares latest on where he thinks A.J. Brown will be traded

It’s been two months since the Los Angeles Rams were reported as being in the mix to acquire A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles. Brown has yet to be traded, which leaves the door open for the Rams to potentially swoop in and make a deal.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported this week that he wouldn’t be surprised if the Rams restart talks with the Eagles after they came “really close” to getting a deal done earlier this offseason. ESPN’s Adam Schefter isn’t so certain a team besides the Patriots will acquire the Eagles star.

Schefter said on his podcast Wednesday that he still believes the Patriots will ultimately trade for Brown despite interest from other teams.

“Now we’re starting to hear about other teams entering the mix,” Schefter said. “I was on a Philadelphia radio show this morning. They brought up the idea that the Rams could be getting back in. They brought up the idea that the Jaguars could be getting back in. All of a sudden, that’s interesting. I will remain in the camp that we’ve been in for the last six, seven weeks, which is that I still think he’s getting traded. I still think he’s getting traded on or shortly after June 1st. I still think that the New England Patriots are going away as the lead contender to land A.J. Brown this offseason.”

Schefter says that other teams had their chance to get a deal done for Brown, but he believes the time has passed. That could be due to the fact that the Rams already paid Davante Adams his $6 million bonus, making it even harder for them to trade him.

“These other teams have had their opportunities throughout the offseason,” he added. “There were conversations with the Rams that did not result in a deal. I don’t know about Jacksonville, I don’t even know where that’s coming from. But I still think that the New England Patriots make the most sense.”

Though nothing is impossible, it’s hard to see the Rams trading for Brown and keeping Adams. That’s two massive wide receiver contracts on the books, with another likely coming this offseason when they extend Puka Nacua.

June 1 is still the date to watch with Brown because of his contract but as of now, all signs point toward the Eagles trading him to New England.
