A balk in the 12th inning brought home the winning run as the Victor Valley baseball team walked off against Adelanto 2-1 in a crucial Desert Sky League matchup as the season winds down.
Victor Valley improved to 5-4 in league play, while Adelanto fell to 6-3 as both teams continue to battle for playoff positioning and league title contention.
The Jackrabbits struck first and took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Milo Figueroa singled to score Damien Munoz.
Adelanto answered in the sixth on a single from Jaeden Stewart that tied the game 1-1.
The game remained tied into extra innings, with Adelanto escaping scoring threats in the eighth and 11th innings, including a double play and a ground out with runners in scoring position.
In the 12th inning, Matthew Yepez doubled ,and Figueroa drew an intentional walk. Robert Middlebrooks followed with a single to load the bases.
With one out and Davian Dominguez at the plate, a balk by Izaiah Almarez allowed Yepez to score the game-winning run.
In the pitcher’s duel, Victor Martinez struck out eight and allowed one run on three hits over eight innings for the Jackrabbits. Tyler Aguilar struck out two in the 12th, and Middlebrooks recorded the final out in relief.
For Adelanto, Adrian Chivichon struck out eight and allowed four hits over 7 ⅓ innings.
The teams will meet again Thursday to conclude their three-game series.

At Victorville, the Aztecs kept their playoff hopes alive with a victory over the Hawks.
Robert Shipley went 2-fo- 2 with two RBIs and a run, Ben Siedenkranz went 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs and Trevor Shenk went 2-for-4 with a RBI, two runs and three stolen bases.
For Silverado, Fabian Garcia went 2-for-4 with two runs.
Academy for Academic Excellence 16, Victor Valley Christian 3
At Victorville, the Knights have secured the Agape League title after improving to 11-0 in the standings.
Nathan Rudd hit a grand slam, Bryson Lilly hit a three-run home run and Rowan Reeder went 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
Hesperia Christian 13, Redlands Adventist 3
At Redlands, Chase Hampton struck out 10 batters over four innings to lead the Patriots in a nonleague victory.
Christopher Dekeyrel led the offense by going 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs, while Clayton Lewis went 2-for-3 with three runs.
Softball Scores
Silverado 13, Barstow 4
At Barstow, the Hawks improved to 6-1 in DSL action with a victory on the road, led by a six-RBIs performance from Alyzzah Piceno.
The Silverado catcher ended the day going 3-for-5 with a home run and two runs.
Alexis Rodriguez notched the win in the circle as she struck out 11 batters over seven innings and at the plate went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run.
For Barstow, Izabella Ayala went 2-for-3 with a home run and a stolen base, and Emily Franco went 2-for-3 with a run.
Victor Valley 20, Adelanto 9
At Adelanto, Andrea Garcia launched three home runs, drove in five runs and scored four times to lead the Jackrabbits past the Saints.
Susanna Ramirez went 5-for-5 with a home run, three RBIs and four runs, and Alyssa Vega went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs.
Hesperia Christian 19, Redlands Adventist 2
At Redlands, the Patriots got back in the win column with a nonleague victory on the road.
Eden Skinner paced the offense by going 4-for-4 with a home run, five RBIs and five runs, while Piley Piorkowski went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and four runs.
