The San Francisco 49ers’ 2025 campaign has officially come to an end after their loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday at Lumen Field, but there’s not much rest that comes with the end of a season, especially for the front office.
On Wednesday, the 49ers announced that they’ve signed offensive lineman Zachary Thomas to a reserve/futures deal that will put him on the roster when the new league year begins in March.
Thomas, 27, played collegiately at San Diego State from 2016-21, where he started 41 games at three different spots along the offensive line. He earned All-Mountain West honors twice before the Chicago Bears took him in the sixth round (No. 186 overall) of the 2022 NFL draft.
After failing to make the Bears’ roster out of camp in his rookie year, Thomas had stints with the Los Angeles Rams, New England Patriots, Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts. He’s appeared in 17 games in his career and played 339 offensive snaps.
Thomas was recently taken in the 2026 UFL draft by the Houston Gamblers.
