49ers give devastating injury update before Week 18 game vs. Seahawks

The San Francisco 49ers got some brutal injury news 90 minutes before their Week 18 showdown with the Seattle Seahawks.

Left tackle Trent Williams and wide receiver Ricky Pearsall were both ruled out after being listed as questionable on the injury report. Williams is dealing with a hamstring injury while Pearsall continues to battle knee and ankle issues.

It isn’t a huge surprise that Williams is out. He hurt his hamstring on the team’s first snap against the Chicago Bears in Week 17. On a short week it always appeared unlikely the 37-year-old would be able to suit up Saturday. He was also a non-participant in practice throughout the week.

It is a bit of a surprise Pearsall is out since he played well while battling the injuries in Week 17 with five catches for 85 yards. Then he was limited throughout the week in practice. This will be his 14th missed game in two seasons.

Here are the 49ers inactive players for Week 18:

In a bit of good news, George Kittle is off the injury report and will play after missing Week 17 with an ankle injury. That’s a great sign for San Francisco given how important Kittle is for both their pass and run games. He was listed as questionable on the injury report.

Defensive end Keion White and cornerback Upton Stout are also good to go after showing up as questionable on the injury report. White has a groin issue he’s dealing with and Stout needed to clear concussion protocol before suiting up Saturday.

Missing Pearsall and Williams is tough for the 49ers while facing one of the best defenses in the NFL. Pearsall opens things up in their passing game with his ability to stretch the field vertically and get open in the middle of the field. Williams’ absence wasn’t felt much against Chicago, but having him out against Seattle will almost assuredly lead to some negative plays.

A game that was already going to be an uphill climb for San Francisco will now be a little tougher.
