The San Francisco 49ers are in the middle of their 2025 training camp at the SAP Performance Facility in Santa Clara, California, and while the team is mostly focused on the upcoming season, cornerback Deommodore Lenoir still has a court case hanging over his head.
Lenoir, 25, was arrested back in June following an interaction with Los Angeles law enforcement when the cornerback allegedly refused to give up car keys that belonged to the driver, Marcus Cunningham, after a gun was reportedly noticed in the car.
Lenoir was released from holding the following morning and was expected to appear in court soon. He had his first chance to speak with the 49ers media over the weekend, and he shared his remorse over the situation.
“I’m different than who I was five years ago, just being at the right place, not really hanging out in areas that I shouldn’t be,” Lenoir said. “So I just want to apologize to my teammates, the organization, to my coaches and to my family, just for a mistake.”
Lenoir shared that he hasn’t received an update on the status of his case. According to the San Francisco Chronicle’s Noah Furtado, the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office has not received the case, and initial court date of Friday, Aug 1, isn’t expected to happen.
If Lenoir is found guilty, he could be punished by the league, which could include a fine or suspension.
The 49ers originally selected Lenoir in the fifth round (No. 172 overall) of the 2021 NFL draft following his collegiate career at Oregon. Through his first four seasons he’s appeared in 62 games and started 47 while recording 265 tackles (10 for a loss), 26 passes defensed, six interceptions, one sack and a forced fumble.
Last November, San Francisco gave Lenoir a five-year, $88.88 million extension, and with Charvarius Ward leaving for a three-year, $54 million deal with the Indianapolis Colts this offseason, Lenoir is now the 49ers top cornerback. They’re hoping that this blip is just that, and that Lenoir can get back to locking down his matchups in 2025.
