Two people were killed in a two-vehicle crash in Newbury Park May 6, authorities said.
Deputies with the Thousand Oaks station responded to the collision near the area of Via Las Brisas and Calle Del Prado shortly after 4 p.m. The collision was near Harvest Moon/Heritage Community Park.
Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Mike McConville confirmed the two deaths and said a number of deputies responded to the scene. They were assisting, redirecting traffic and investigating the crash, he said. The city contracts police services with the sheriff’s office.
McConville said no pedestrians were involved in the crash.
The occupants of one vehicle, Newbury Park residents Alejandro Ramirez ,77, and Maria Ramirez, 73, died in the crash, according to a sheriff’s office news release.
A man in the other vehicle was injured, taken to the hospital and later released said sheriff’s Capt. John Hajducko May 7.
The intersections at Via Las Brisas and Via Rio and at Via Las Brisas and Calle Del Prado were closed temporarirly as a result of the incident, he said.
