“The job and resource fair offers a unique opportunity for individuals interested in pursuing careers in early childhood education to connect with organizations in San Joaquin County, learn from their representatives, and explore various employment and education opportunities,” a news release states.

The job fair is open to anyone interested in positions such as preschool teacher, teacher assistant, childcare worker, clerical staff and more. Additionally, on-the-spot interviews will be available, organizers said.

According to the San Joaquin County Office of Education, participating agencies at the job fair include: Head Start San Joaquin, El Concilio, Lodi Unified School District, Child Abuse Prevention Council (CAPC), Community Action Partnership of Kern (CAPK), KinderCare, Family Resource and Referral, and Teachers College of San Joaquin.

Second Chances Job and Resource Fair at Stockton Civic Memorial Auditorium

The Stockton Second Chances Month Celebration will also take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, at the Stockton Memorial Civic Auditorium. This is a free event presented by Friends Outside.

“Free job fair, expungement clinic, haircuts, flu shots, raffle prizes, and giveaways, open to anyone who has been incarcerated,” a news release states.

Dave Dahl, founder of Dave’s Killer Bread, who served 15 years in prison for four sentences from burglary to armed robbery and drug dealing, will be the keynote speaker at the Second Chances Job and Resource Fair.

“I was a four-time loser before I realized I was in the wrong game,” Dave’s Killer Bread bags said since 2005. “People stuck by me, and now I am here to help inspire others to keep trying. Because nearly all of us need a second chance sometime in life.”

Remarks and his speech will begin around 12:30 p.m., according to the news release.

“People returning to our community after jail or prison face ongoing stigmatization and barriers in finding jobs, housing, and other resources,” said Michael Sorensen, executive director of Friends Outside. “This event brings many of those resources together so that folks can reintegrate and thrive in the community.”

Last year, almost 300 formerly incarcerated people attended the Stockton Second Chances event, organizers said.
