Zeeland is making additional moves to spur redevelopment on Main Avenue.
Zeeland City Council unanimously approved a request for proposals May 4 to solicit development bids for a multi-story, mixed-use building at 303 E. Main Ave. — which previously held Main Street Auto, before the business relocated.
The city-owned property is located on the corner of Main Avenue and Centennial Street. Officials hope to see the site redeveloped to include a two- or three-story building with active ground-floor commercial space and upper-floor residential or office uses.
While the properties surrounding 303 E. Main Ave. are currently residential and privately owned, officials encouraged bidders to explore the potential for voluntary acquisition and assemblage of parcels as part of a larger redevelopment concept.
All bids must have an orientation on Main Avenue and include parking or participation in shared parking solutions.
Zeeland City Council is expected to consider proposals in July.
