Our summer poll series began last week with a look at the top girls high school sports team in Greater Lansing from the 2024-25 school year.
Now it’s time to weigh in on which area boys team was the best.
State champions and state runners-up are among the notable teams from the past school year who are in the running to be voted the area’s best.

DeWitt football
The Panthers featured one of the most prolific offenses in state history while reaching the Division 3 state finals. DeWitt had the seventh-highest point total (702) for a season in state history in 2024.
East Lansing basketball
The Trojans became the first school from the area to claim a boys basketball state title in the MHSAA’s largest division in two decades. East Lansing went 28-1 and ended the season in MaxPreps national top-25 rankings while claiming its first state title since 1958.
Fowler basketball
The Eagles put together one of the best seasons in program history and were the Division 4 state runner-up. The finish was the best in 23 years for the Eagles.
Fowler football
The Eagles had their first perfect regular season since 2014 while making a run to the Division 8 state semifinals. Fowler outscored its opponents 508-129 in its strong 2024 season.
Fowlerville wrestling
The Gladiators put together a strong run and capped their season with a runner-up finish in Division 2. The finish was the best since 1994 when Fowlerville won the Class B state title.
Grand Ledge lacrosse
The Comets made a run to the Division 1 state semifinals before falling to Detroit Catholic Central. The state semifinal appearance was the first in program history.
Lansing Catholic football
The Cougars reached the state final for the second time in four years and finished as the Division 6 state runner-up.
Mason baseball
The Bulldogs set a school record for wins (31) while making their deepest run in school history and reaching the Division 2 state semifinals. Mason captured its first regional championship in program history on its way to the state semis.
Morrice football
The Orioles ended the season with an 11-2 mark and as the runner-up in Division 2 of 8-player football. It was Morrice’s best finish since winning the state title in 2018.
Pewamo-Westphalia basketball
The CMAC champion Pirates made their best state tournament run since 2019 by making the Division 3 state semifinals.
Pewamo-Westphalia track
The Pirates finished as the state runner-up, marking the third straight season they’ve finished as tone of the top two teams at the Division 3 state meet.
Portland St. Patrick baseball
The Shamrocks captured their second state title in program history and first since 2017 when they knocked off Plymouth Christian for the Division 4 state title earlier this month.
