Vote for the Petoskey-area Athlete of the Week: Sept. 22-27

It’s time to vote for the Petoskey News-Review Athlete of the Week.

All results come from Monday, Sept. 22 through Saturday, Sept. 27 from Emmet and Charlevoix Counties.

Congratulations to Harbor Springs’ Jake Warner, who earned the Athlete of the Week honor a week ago after a big night on the football field for the Rams. Warner helped Harbor to a second win of the season and earned 41.23% of the vote for the win.

Petoskey’s Alexis Cadarette was a close second with 38.91% of the vote.

Vote for these athletes from Monday, Sept. 29 to 4 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 2. Look for another News-Review Athlete of the Week to start back up next week.

William Webb, East Jordan football 

Webb finished 5 of 7 passing for 120 yards and a TD, then added 87 yards and two touchdowns rushing. He also made 10 tackles and had an interception on defense. 

Lanie Irwin, Pellston volleyball

Irwin had 20 kills, 28 digs and five aces against Onaway. She also had 31 kills, 16 digs and four aces at East Jordan last week, while also recording her 1,000th kill for her career. 

Sophia Balistreri, Harbor Springs cross country 

Balistreri came through with a season-best time of 21:22.37 in the Shepherd Bluejay Invite, placing 27th overall to lead the Rams and help them to a fifth place team finish. 

Jace Shaw, Petoskey football 

Shaw made five tackles, two for a loss, a sack and a pass deflection against Alpena Friday night, then also kicked a 34-yard field goal and went 3 for 3 on extra points. 

Lily Payton, Boyne City volleyball

Payton eclipsed 1,000 assists for her career. She had 22 assists against Cheboygan, adding 12 digs and two aces. 

Hunter Eaton, Charlevoix cross country 

Eaton ran a personal-best in the Shepherd Bluejay Invite, recording a time of 15:22.4, good for third place. The PR came by nearly 18 seconds. 

Collin Jess, Charlevoix football 

Jess finished 6 of 8 passing for 132 yards and two touchdowns, then added 68 yards and a touchdown against Benzie Central.

Katie Parker, Petoskey: 

In an upset win over BNC previously unbeaten TC Central, Parker recorded 47 assists, 18 digs and a block.
