GAYLORD ― The Gaylord Herald Times Athlete of the Week poll is back!
Each week, candidates from Gaylord, St. Mary and Johannesburg-Lewiston High School will be nominated for their performances over the past seven days. Come back and vote for who you think had the best performance; winners will be announced on social media on Tuesday.
Week 1 – Cash Cunningham, JoBurg football
Week 2 – Mady Peppin, JoBurg volleyball
Week 3 – Emery Lawes, JoBurg volleyball
Week 4 – Joe Jacobson, St. Mary football
Week 5 – Hailey Bober, JoBurg volleyball
Week 6 – Kaven Cole, Gaylord football
Week 7 – Lexi Hogle, JoBurg volleyball
Week 8 – Lily Sargent, Ivy Roberts, Ella Holewinski, Olivia Reiter, Gaylord swim and dive
Week 9 – Lily Crane, JoBurg volleyball
Jaron Bensinger, Gaylord football
Bensiger ran for 136 yards and a touchdown, including a 95-yard TD run, the second-longest run in GHS history. Also added three tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss.
Kelsen Snyder, Gaylord football
Snyder completed 16 of 21 passes for 178 yards and three touchdowns in Gaylord’s playoff win over Marquette.
Grayson Glazier, Gaylord football
Glazier caught four passes for 75 yards and two touchdowns and added another 64 yards on kick returns.
Logan Greenier, Gaylord St. Mary football
Greenier exploded against Mio, rushing for 389 yards and 7 touchdowns as GSM scored 84 points in a playoff victory.
Nathan O’Connell, Gaylord St. Mary football
O’Connell ran for 224 yards and 2 TDs and completed 100% of his passes for another 80 yards and a TD.
Katie Berkshire, Gaylord cross country
Berkshire had her best overall time (17:03) and finish (second place) at the MHSAA D2 state finals, turning in the second-fastest time in the D2 state finals history.
Jaeden Briley, JoBurg volleyball
Led JL with 16 service points and 6 aces while adding 8 kills and 14 digs in tri-match with Lincoln-Alcona and Inland Lakes, wrapping the Cards’ regular season schedule.
Note: Voting will end on Saturday this week. Also, now that postseason play has begun, previous winners will be eligible for a second nomination in next week’s poll.
