It’s time to vote for the Detroit Free Press Buffalo Wild Wings Girls Prep Athlete of the Season.
This week’s poll features four athletes – two volleyball, one cross country and one field hockey– who were our top vote-getters during the fall season.
Voting will close at noon on Friday, Dec. 5.
Here are the nominees (listed in alphabetical order by last name):
Annabelle Chan, Woodhaven, cross country
Chan was nominated following her victory during the Downriver Jamboree event in September. She had multiple top-10 finishes in the 5K events throughout the season including a second Downriver Jamboree event, in which she finished third with a time of 20:12.7; the 20th River Rat Open, sixth in 19:41.2; and fourth in the Downriver League championships with a time of 19:32.7.
Avery Kapeller, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, volleyball
The Georgetown recruit led her team a 29-7-3 record and advanced to the regional semifinals in the MHSAA volleyball tournament before losing to eventual Division 1 champion Farmington Hills Mercy. Kapeller had 437 kills, 137 digs, 50 aces and 26 blocks this season. She also had a .282 hitting percentage.
Addison Kuebler, Farmington Hills Mercy, field hockey
Kuebler was a contributor to Mercy’s success this season as the team earned a spot in the first-ever MHSAA field hockey playoffs. The junior defender had 19 shots on goal and 134 stops and was voted the Marlins’ Defensive Player of the Year by her teammates.
Eleanor Williams, Romeo, volleyball
Williams led Romeo to the regional finals in November before suffering a 3-2 loss to Oxford. The junior hitter had 441 kills, 285 digs, 66 blocks and 54 aces this season.
