It’s time to vote for the Detroit Free Press Buffalo Wild Wings Boys Prep Athlete of the Week.
This week’s poll features five football players who led their teams to a victory in the MHSAA football finals at Ford Field during the week of Nov. 23-30.
Voting will close at noon on Friday, Dec. 5.
Here are the nominees (listed in alphabetical order by last name):
WR Gideon Gash, Novi Detroit Catholic Central
The junior receiver for CC was the open man in the team’s 42-19 Division 1 state title victory over Detroit Cass Tech on Sunday, Nov. 30. Gash had three catches, all resulting in touchdowns, and collected 126 receiving yards.
QB Jabin Gonzales, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s
The Eaglets repeated as back-to-back Division 2 state champions after defeating Dexter, 51-14, on Friday, Nov. 28. Gonzales led the OLSM offense, completing 17 of 22 passes for 304 yards and four touchdowns.
RB Clayton Miller, Menominee
Miller dominated the gridiron on Sunday for Menominee as it defeated Schoolcraft, 34-6, for its fourth-ever Division 7 state title. The senior running back for the Maroons had 25 carries for 122 yards and three touchdowns.
QB Traverse Moore, DeWitt
Moore had a history-making performance for DeWitt en route to the team’s 54-20 Division 3 victory over Mount Pleasant on Sunday. The senior quarterback set the MHSAA record for most rushing yards in the championship game, with 397. He carried the ball 32 times and had three rushing touchdowns and one passing touchdown.
QB Drew Sheridan, Dearborn Divine Child
Divine Child defeated Hudsonville, 23-22, on Friday to win its first state title in 40 years. Sheridan, the team’s sophmore quarterback, went 19-for-25 for 241 yards and two touchdowns.
