Vikings request interview with Lions executive Ray Agnew for GM role

The Minnesota Vikings have their eyes on a Detroit Lions executive as a potential candidate for their vacant general manager position.

According to multiple reports, the Vikings have requested an interview with Lions assistant general manager Ray Agnew for the role, which was vacated when Minnesota fired Kwesi Adofo-Mensah in January.

Agnew has been the Lions’ assistant GM since 2021, when Brad Holmes was hired in Detroit. He was brought over from the Los Angeles Rams, for whom Agnew was the director of pro personnel from 2017-20.

In total, Agnew spent 18 seasons in the Rams’ front office, holding titles that include assistant director of pro personnel, director of player development and team pastor.

Agnew played 11 NFL seasons at defensive tackle and won Super Bowl 34 with the then-St. Louis Rams.

Longtime Vikings executive Rob Brzezinski, who led the Vikings’ draft in April, has been serving as the Vikings’ interim general manager since Adofo-Mensah’s firing. According to ESPN, Brzezinski and Agnew are two of the 10 known candidates for the job.

The Lions and Vikings both entered the 2024 season finale with a 14-2 record — the Lions topped Minnesota, 31-9, to clinch the NFC North title — before flaming out in the postseason. Each franchise seemed poised for another successful year in 2025, but instead, they both finished with a record of 9-8.

Minnesota swept the season series with Detroit and eliminated the Lions from playoff contention on Christmas Day, resulting in a last-place finish for the Lions and a third-place finish for the Vikings.
