CHEBOYGAN – There were a ton of sporting events over the course of the past couple of days, meaning there were a lot of top performers in the Cheboygan area.
Baseball, softball, soccer, track and field and golf events were held in the area during this time span, so we had many standouts.
Here’s a look at the area’s top performers for May 5-6.
BEST TEAM PERFORMANCE
Inland Lakes girls track and field – It was a sensational Tuesday for the Sarah Furman-coached Inland Lakes girls, who finished in a tie for first place at the Fairview Invitational on May 6. The Bulldogs had a total of five first-place finishes, including three from their respective relay teams. Inland Lakes tallied 117 points in the meet, which tied with Tawas.
BASEBALL
Josh Clark, Cheboygan – Combined for three hits and an RBI in a doubleheader at Kalkaska on May 5.
Cash DePauw, Inland Lakes – Finished 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs in a game one win over Pellston. He was also the winning pitcher, striking out five in two innings.
Ben Strittmatter, Mackinaw City – Went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs in a game one victory over Alanson on May 6.
Tyler Hingston, Mackinaw City – Finished 2-for-3 with a run scored in a win over Alanson.
Braylon Currie and Knox Wilson – Currie picked up a pitching win in a game one victory over Alanson, striking out five and allowing two hits in two innings, then followed it up with five strikeouts over 2 1/3 relief innings in a game two win over Alanson.
Wilson pitched two innings in game one, striking out five and scattering one hit. In game two, he earned the win by striking out three and allowing one hit in 2 2/3 innings.
Andrew Gulley, Onaway – Registered two hits and an RBI in game two at East Jordan on May 6.
Luke Lovelace, Onaway – Combined for three hits in a doubleheader at East Jordan.
SOFTBALL
Tessa Lake, Cheboygan – Combined for three hits, an RBI and two runs in a doubleheader split at Kalkaska on May 5.
Lydia Kosanke, Cheboygan – Struck out 12, allowed one hit and walked one in a six-inning complete game victory in game two at Kalkaska.
Lexi Kovtun, Inland Lakes – Finished with three hits – including two doubles – and three RBIs in a game one win over Pellston on May 6. She also picked up the pitching win, striking out eight and allowing three hits in four innings.
Eva Carper, Inland Lakes – Recorded three hits and two RBIs in a game one win over Pellston. In game two, Carper earned the pitching win by striking out five and scattering two hits in 4 1/3 innings.
Alexis McGrath-Powell, Inland Lakes – Combined for four hits in a doubleheader sweep over Pellston.
Poppy Wallace, Mackinaw City – Combined for two hits, four RBIs and six runs scored in a doubleheader sweep over Alanson on May 6.
Kenzlie Currie, Mackinaw City – Combined for four hits, six RBIs and four runs scored in a doubleheader against Alanson.
Vanessa Groenewoud, Mackinaw City – Combined for four hits, four RBIs and two runs scored in a doubleheader against Alanson.
Ella Kruczynski, Mackinaw City – Pitched four strong innings, striking out eight and allowing one hit in a game two win over Alanson.
Marley Szymoniak, Onaway – Finished 2-for-3 in game one at East Jordan on May 6.
Ema DeMaestri, Onaway – Went 2-for-3 in game one at East Jordan.
Sadie Decker, Onaway – Connected for two hits in game two at East Jordan.
GIRLS SOCCER
Jillian McKinley, Cheboygan – Scored an equalizing goal for the Chiefs and delivered another strong display in a 1-1 tie at Boyne City on May 5.
Maddie Long, Cheboygan – Had a solid defensive performance at Boyne City.
Elise Markham and Mallory Ekdahl, Cheboygan – The Cheboygan midfield duo was terrific throughout a contest at Boyne City.
TRACK AND FIELD (BOYS)
Lucas Sidlauskas, Cheboygan – Earned first place in the shot put (50-8) and discus (159) at the Boyne City Invitational on May 6.
Leland Brendle, Cheboygan – Recorded a fourth-place finish in the 110 hurdles (17.86) at the Boyne City Invitational.
Gabe Sabolsky, Cheboygan – Finished fourth in the pole vault (9-6) at the Boyne City Invitational.
Zander Robinson, Inland Lakes – Finished first in the pole vault (10-6) at the Fairview Invitational on May 6.
4X400 Relay, Inland Lakes – The team of Alyx Willis, Elijah Elliot, Jake Feagan and Tanner Howard earned second with a 3:46.80 time at the Fairview Invitational.
Jack Wilson, Inland Lakes – Took third in the shot put (38-8.5) at the Fairview Invitational.
Tanner Howard, Inland Lakes – Earned third in the high jump (5-6) at the Fairview Invitational.
Austin Friske, Inland Lakes – Placed third in the pole vault (10-0) at the Fairview Invitational.
Brach Taylor, Pellston – Recorded fourth in the 300 hurdles (48.24) and fifth in the 110 hurdles (18.36) at Central Lake on May 6.
Hunter Brandt, Pellston – Finished fourth in the long jump (16-5) at Central Lake.
TRACK AND FIELD (GIRLS)
Joyce Ormsbee, Cheboygan – Finished second in the shot put (31-9) and fifth in the discus (69-9) at the Boyne City Invitational on May 6.
Cloee Rupp, Cheboygan – Took third in the discus (77-0) and sixth in the 300 hurdles (54.97) at the Boyne City Invitational.
Nola Ecker, Cheboygan – Earned third in the pole vault (7-0) at the Boyne City Invitational.
Estella Redding, Cheboygan – Registered sixth in the 200 (29.0) and 400 (1:04.48) at the Boyne City Invitational.
Madison McKethen, Cheboygan – Placed fourth in the discus (71-10) at the Boyne City Invitational.
Audrey Redding, Cheboygan – Earned fifth in the 100 hurdles (14.32) at the Boyne City Invitational.
Mary Myshock, Inland Lakes – Finished first in the 100 hurdles (18.48) at the Fairview Invitational on May 6.
Frankie Bunker, Inland Lakes – Took first in the pole vault (7-6) at the Fairview Invitational.
4X100 Relay, Inland Lakes – The team of Josie Cooper, Chloe Robinson, Mary Myshock and Kaylee Taglauer earned first with a 55.03 time at the Fairview Invitational.
4X200 Relay, Inland Lakes – The team of Mary Myshock, Chloe Robinson, Josie Cooper and Kaylee Taglauer placed first with a 1:58.93 time at the Fairview Invitational.
4X400 Relay, Inland Lakes – The team of Mackenzie Biesel, Addison Byrne, Chloe Robinson and Elizabeth Furman clocked a 4:44.61 time to take first at the Fairview Invitational.
Elizabeth Furman, Inland Lakes – Took second in the 800 (2:44) and third in the 1600 (6:04) at the Fairview Invitational.
Kaylee Taglauer, Inland Lakes – Earned second in the 400 (1:07.45) and third in the 100 (13.75) at the Fairview Invitational.
Chloe Robinson, Inland Lakes – Placed second in the high jump (4-8) at the Fairview Invitational.
Josie Cooper, Inland Lakes – Recorded second in the 100 hurdles (19.54) at the Fairview Invitational.
Faith Lehre, Inland Lakes – Registered third in the 400 (1:07.66) at the Fairview Invitational.
Abygayle Zinke, Inland Lakes – Earned fifth in the discus (72-0) at the Fairview Invitational.
4X200 Relay, Onaway – The team of Maya Shimel, Saleen Macgregor, Andrea Ruppert and Lillyann Cooksey placed third with a time of 2:04.29 at the Fairview Invitational.
Maya Shimel, Onaway – Took fourth in the 300 hurdles (56.99) at the Fairview Invitational.
Lillyann Cooksey, Onaway – Placed fourth in the high jump (13-3) at the Fairview Invitational.
Clara Hutchinson, Pellston – Took fourth in the 400 (1:14.80) at Central Lake on May 6.
Olivia DeLong, Pellston – Placed fifth in the long jump (11-3) at Central Lake.
GOLF
Tristan Stead, Cheboygan – Earned a medal by finishing in ninth place individually with an 81 at the Harbor Springs Invitational on May 5.
Jacob Pluszczynski, Cheboygan – Finished 19th overall with a personal-best 88 at the Harbor Springs Invitational.
Terence O’Boyle, Inland Lakes – Finished fourth with a nine-hole score of 47 at a home conference meet on May 5.
Kyle Valot, Mackinaw City – Shot a 50 over nine holes and tied for seventh in a conference meet at Inland Lakes.
Jared Wiertalla, Mackinaw City – Tied for seventh with a 50 at a conference meet in Indian River.
