The Detroit Tigers will try to end a five-game skid against the Kansas City Royals in a national broadcast on “Sunday Night Baseball.”
But, hey: No pressure.
The Tigers were swept by Boston this week at Comerica Park, and have dropped the first two games of their road series against the American League Central-rival Royals, 4-3 (in a bullpen bust), and 5-1.
And now it’s right-handed reliever Brenan Hanifee’s turn to stop the bleeding, as the Tigers turn to yet another edition of “pitching chaos,” with only Jack Flaherty, Keider Montero and Framber Valdez (suspended) healthy in the rotation.

Hanifee has yet to give up a run in four appearances, striking out four in 6⅔ innings since being called up from Triple-A Toledo. Cameron struggled with too many pitches in the strike zone in his most recent start, as the Athletics touched him up for five runs (four earned) on nine hits and two walks over 5⅓ innings.

The “Sunday Night Baseball” play-by-play announcer is Jason Benetti, who also serves as the Tigers’ play-by-play man. The analysts for this game are Eric Hosmer, who won a World Series with the Royals in 2015, and Andy Dirks, the Tigers’ TV analyst and former Tigers outfielder.
