Sacramento, Calif. — Jake Rogers has a new home.
The Tigers, after designating the popular catcher for assignment on Tuesday, traded him to the Baltimore Orioles Thursday for Double-A pitcher Zane Barnhart.
Rogers, who played parts of six seasons with the Tigers and was the primary catcher in 2023 and 2024, was DFA’d to make room for the return of Javier Báez and also to clear a path for rookie Eduardo Valencia.
Barnhart, a product of Hillsdale College, was a 17th-round pick of the Orioles in 2023. The 24-year-old is in his second season in Double-A. Working as a reliever, he had a 4.05 ERA in 40 innings over 31 games playing at Chesapeake.
He is averaging 10.1 strikeouts per nine innings and will report to Erie.
The Orioles picked up the remainder of Rogers’ $3 million salary for this season.
