These track and field athletes have already qualified for state finals

Hartland senior Elliana Neuer will have options for the state Division 1 track and field finals.

Neuer set school records in three events this season, all of which earned her early qualification for the Division 1 finals May 30 at Rockford High School.

She met the early qualifying standard in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 14.99 seconds, the 1,600 with a time of 4:50.27 and the 3,200 with a time of 10:38.44.

Neuer has qualified early in more events than any Livingston County athlete leading into regional meets this weekend. The Michigan High School Athletic Association instituted tough early-qualifying standards last season, allowing athletes to punch their tickets to the state finals before regionals.

At regionals, the top two finishers in each event will advance to the state finals, as will any athlete who meets an additional qualifying time less stringent than the early-qualifying standards.

The other county girls to qualify early in Division 1 are Brighton senior Juliet Lewis, who has run a county-record 2:14.09 in the 800, and Howell senior Emma Kanka, who has thrown the shot put 40 feet, 5.5 inches.

The only county boy already qualified in Division 1 is Howell junior Jack MacGregor with a time of 9:05.51 in the 3,200.

Pinckney junior Jaelyn Ray has qualified for the Division 2 finals in the 1,600 with a time of 4:49.22 and the 3,200 with a time of 10:32.20. Two Pinckney hurdlers have also qualified, senior Sam Burtts with a time of 14.78 in the 110 highs and junior Davea Crowe with a time of 47.09 in the 300s.

Charyl Stockwell has two girls who have qualified in Division 3. Lauren Hammond has run 12.65 in the 100 and Becka Lethorn has cleared 10 feet in pole vault.

The county’s three Division 1 schools will compete in a regional Friday, May 15, at Grand Ledge High School. The meet will begin with girls pole vault at 1 p.m. Running finals will begin at 5 p.m.

Pinckney will compete in the Division 2 regional Friday, May 15, at Chelsea High School. The meet begins at 9:30 a.m. with girls pole vault. Running finals are scheduled for 1 p.m.

Fowlerville is in the Division 2 regional Friday, May 15, at Frankenmuth High School. Field events will begin at 3 p.m. and running finals at 6.

Stockwell is in the Division 3 regional Saturday, May 16, at Stockbridge High School. Girls pole vault will begin at 9 a.m. and running finals at 1 p.m.
