For this month’s poll, we asked readers to nominate the church near Holland they feel is the most beautiful.

According to Hollanders, the clear winner is Dimnent Memorial Chapel, which earned 40% of the vote.

The prominent landmark is located on Hope College’s campus. It opened in 1929 as Hope Memorial Chapel, but was renamed Dimnent Memorial Chapel in 1959 in honor of Dr. Edward D. Dimnent, the fifth president of Hope.

Pillar Church came in second place with 25.1% of the vote. The organization at 57 E. 10th St. has a rich history that dates back to the founding of Holland. The Greek Revival building was finished in 1856, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was one of a handful of buildings to survive the Holland Fire of 1871.
