Michigan is expected to see afternoon storms today, July 14, with more rain and thunderstorms in the forecast late on July 15 rolling into July 16.
“Strong to severe storms remain possible this afternoon. Best chance for storms is east of US-131, especially along the US 127 corridor,” the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids said on X. “Primary threat is damaging winds but large hail and heavy downpours are possible.”
On July 15, rain and thunderstorms are expected in southern Michigan and in the Upper Peninsula. Then, more rain and thunderstorms are forecast statewide on July 16.
Widespread haze is included in the forecast for northern Michigan as the Canadian wildfire smoke moves over Michigan.
“Hazy skies will linger through Monday, with mostly dry conditions and highs in the upper 80s. Rain chances increase heading into midweek, with the next significant rainfall expected around Wednesday,” the NWS in Gaylord said on X.
The entire state of Michigan is currently under an air quality alert because of the high levels of fine particulate matter, which is unhealthy for the general public, but especially harmful for sensitive groups.
Expect warm temperatures for Michigan this week, with Grand Rapids forecasted to see 92 degrees on July 16.
In the Lower Peninsula, the highs range in the 80s to lower 90s, and in the Upper Peninsula highs range into the 80s.
