Rain, cool temps follow storms in Metro Detroit

Rain chances and colder temperatures are expected in Metro Detroit following Monday’s thunderstorms, the National Weather Service said.

On Monday, severe storms knocked out power for thousands across southeast Michigan and toppled a tree onto a St. Clair Shores home.

Early Tuesday, DTE Energy reported that 647 of its customers were without power, as of 7:45 a.m. The company said 99.9% of its customers have service. It had more than 4,800 customers in the dark on Monday night, with the hardest-hit areas being Roseville, Grosse Pointe Woods, and Beverly Hills.

Consumers Energy said service was interrupted to 1,207 of its customers, but 99.9 percent of its customers had power, as of 7:45 a.m. Tuesday. The number compares with 4,188 on Monday night. The company said most of those customers were near Roscommon in Crawford County.

A cold front moving across the region is expected to bring chances for rain throughout the day and night on Tuesday, according to NWS. The agency said the greatest chances for showers are across Metro Detroit and places south of it.

NWS meteorologists predict Detroit’s high temperature to reach 59 degrees under mostly cloudy skies on Tuesday. The city’s average monthly high temperature for May is 70.3.

The forecast also calls for lower-than-normal high temperatures across the region over the rest of the week.

On Wednesday, high temperatures in southeast Michigan will range between 53 and 60, according to the NWS. Detroit’s high temperature is predicted to hit 60.

It predicts a near repeat on Thursday with highs landing between 53 and 58.

Friday should mark the start of a slight warm-up, the weather service said. High temperatures are expected to reach between 56 and 62.

On Saturday, the region could see highs ranging from 60 to 66, according to the agency. Detroit is predicted to have its warmest day of the week on Saturday with a high temperature of 67 degrees.
