Portland, Grand Ledge have strong showings at wrestling districts

The quest for undefeated seasons remains alive for a pair of Portland wresters.

The Raiders had two individuals keep their perfect records intact by capturing titles at an individual Division 2 district at Williamston on Saturday, Feb. 14.

Brad Meyers, who picked up his 150th career win earlier this month, remained undefeated while finishing as the champion at 190 pounds and Branlun Simon claimed the title at 120 pounds to stay unbeaten. Meyers and Simon, who each improved to 45-0, were among four Portland wresters to capture district titles.

Landon Guilford was the champion at 215 and Grady Lanz won at 106 for Portland.

Charlotte was the other Greater Lansing program with multiple champions at the district as Tyler Densmore won at 150 pounds and Brock Foster was the champion at 175.

Also claiming district titles were Fowlerville’s Ryder Kleinschmidt (138), DeWitt’s Tyler Bashore (157), Williamston’s Hawk Harding (165), Eaton Rapids’ Jameson Onstott (113) and St. Johns’ Donovan Quinn (126).

Division 1 at Howell

Grand Ledge had a strong showing and had five wrestlers finish as individual district champions. The winners for the Comets included Michigan State signee and reigning state champion Logan Tollison, who improved to 48-0 this season by taking the title at 285 with a win via fall.

The other champions for Grand Ledge, which captured a team district title earlier in the week, were Eben Abdo at 132, Jack Bull at 165, Ashton Delaney at 175 and Sam Steinacker at 215.

Division 3 at Olivet

Laingsburg and Lakewood each had multiple wrestlers finish as individual champions at this Feb. 14 district. Lakewood had three champions with Vincent Stamm winning at 132 pounds, Bryson Boucher capturing a title at 157 and Oliver Johnson winning the championship at 126.

Laingsburg’s champions were Dylan Phillips at 106 and Cooper Mund at 113.

The other area district champions were Leslie’s Carter Foster (144), Olivet’s Van Wirtz (150) and Ovid-Elsie’s William Baese (120).

Division 4 at Holton

Fulton junior Roman Patmon and Ithaca senior Jessee Pannill were the two area champions at this district. Patmon won at 144 and Pannill won at 157.

Division 2 at Lowell

Ionia’s Wade Charon was the lone champion from the area at this district. Charon was the champion at 106 pounds.
