The Port Huron Police Department is preparing events to celebrate National Night Out this Aug. 4.
Every year police departments across the country host events for National Night Out as a way to build and strengthen relationships with local residents.
“It’s one night where people put down their phones, pull out the lawn chairs, fire up the grill, let the kids play, and get to know the people who live next door,” a statement from the Port Huron Police Department on National Night Out said.
The Port Huron Police Department allowed residents to register for National Night Out block parties and received applications for three different block parties around the city for residents to meet and talk to the officers who patrol the street.
“We look forward to this event every year. It’s a great opportunity for people to meet the officers in their neighborhoods, and for officers to meet them,” Port Huron Assistant Police Chief Jeremy Young said.
The first block party will be held at the intersection of 11th and Howard streets from 3 to 10 p.m. The next will be held at 1317 Seventh Street from 5 to 7 p.m. Finally, a third event will be held at the 900 block of Huron Avenue from 6 to 9 p.m.
