Police say teen was wounded in Detroit drive-by shooting

A 16-year-old boy was wounded Monday in what police said they believe was a drive-by shooting on Detroit’s west side.

Officers with the Detroit Police Department’s 3rd Precinct were called at about 10:15 p.m. to the 3700 block of 16th Street near Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks Boulevard for a report of a shooting, according to authorities.

Police arrived and found the teen with a gunshot wound.

Medics took the victim to a hospital, and officials said he is expected to survive.

Detectives said it appears a round struck the youth during what they suspect was a drive-by shooting.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the incident or the suspect should call the Detroit Police Department’s 3rd Precinct at (313) 596-5300 or Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.

The incident is among the most recent in Michigan that involved a teen victim.

Earlier this month, a 16-year-old boy suffered two non-fatal gunshot wounds in a shooting on Detroit’s east side. Two girls, ages 9 and 12, were also hurt, but not by gunshots.

Another 16-year-old was also shot and wounded on Detroit’s west side at the beginning of the month.

Last month, a 17-year-old was charged in the nonfatal shooting of a 14‑year‑old during a “teen takeover” on May 17.
