Detroit police are investigating the deaths of two people whose bodies were found Wednesday in separate vehicles.
A one-month-old infant also was found unharmed in the back seat in one of the vehicles, according to authorities.
Police said officers were alerted around 1:49 p.m. by ShotSpotter, the technology law enforcement agencies use to detect gunfire in monitored areas. It noted nine shots fired quickly, followed by another three shots on the 9600 block of McKinney Street.
Officers arrived within minutes and found the bodies in the vehicles.
“It appears the suspect walked up and opened fire,” Police Commander John Svec of the 9th Precinct told media at the scene on Wednesday.
Based on the locations of the shell casings, the shootings appeared to be targeted, Svec said.
Police were still working on the identity of the two victims and the infant on Wednesday.
Other details were not released.
