With the kind of winter it’s been so far around northern Michigan, it’s almost a surprise it’s taken this long.
The first batch of weather cancellations for area athletics have arrived on Friday, Dec. 19.
Both the girls and boys basketball matchups for Petoskey vs. Gaylord have been postponed for Friday night.
The Petoskey and Gaylord girls teams were scheduled to meet in Gaylord, while the Northmen and Blue Devil boys were scheduled to meet in Petoskey.
As of 11:45 a.m. Friday, Petoskey and Gaylord are both under a Winter Weather Advisory until 4 p.m., which is predicted to carry gusts of 45 mph and 2-4 inches of blowing snow. Lake effect bands may drop more near the water. Wind chill temperatures are also currently around 2° in the area.
The Petoskey boys are off to a 4-1 start to the season and 1-0 start to the BNC slate. Gaylord’s boys have started 3-2, earning a pair of victories over Saginaw Valley League teams Midland and Bay City Central.
Both the Petoskey and Gaylord girls have started the year 3-1 on the young season.
No makeup dates for the BNC games have been set as of 11:45 p.m., Friday.
