Ottawa County Board to consider motions for Idema Explorers Trail

Planning for additional segments of the Idema Explorers Trail continues, as three motions head to the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners after being approved in committee Jan. 20.

Officials will review a grant agreement for $400,000 from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources for the Eastmanville Segment. They’ll also consider increasing the capital project budget to roughly $1.696 million between funding from the grant, a millage and the Ottawa County Parks Foundation.

The three-mile long segment will connect the Eastmanville Bayou Open Space and Allendale Township.

The Idema Explorers Trail is part of the Grand River Greenway, of which Ottawa County owns about 2,000 acres. The trail currently has 20 miles of a projected 36.5 miles complete. When finished, the trail will connect public land between Grand Haven and Grand Rapids.

Commissioners will also consider a related engineering contract for $95,414.78 with Prein & Newhof.
