A proposed gas station and convenience store remains under review in Livingston County after a public hearing before the Green Oak Township Planning Commission on July 16.
Officials discussed the request for special use approval, but allowed the applicant time to address outstanding site plan concerns and questions before a decision is made.
The development is proposed on a vacant nine-acre parcel on Whitmore Lake Road and West Eight Mile Road. The project, according to the meeting market, would include a 7,330-square-foot Red Barn Market.
The applicant was able to preserve 44 additional trees on the wooded lot after a previous submittal, but the project would still require the removal of 178 trees.
Mike Noles with UMLOR Group, who spoke during the meeting, shared the applicant is Yatooma Oil. The company describes itself as a family-owned and operated wholesale fuel supplier.
Noles said the property is under contract. The business would operate 5 a.m.-11:59 p.m. — with two to four employees and a full kitchen available for lease.
Commissioners discussed tree removal, unresolved traffic and circulation concerns, and the proposed heights of the fuel canopy, the latter of which is expected to go before the Green Oak Township Zoning Board of Appeals.
A separate site plan approval request will be considered at a future meeting.
