MSU basketball left off top NCAA Tournament seeds list by CBS Sports

One national analyst doesn’t have Michigan State pegged as a top two seed in their early look ahead to the 2026-27 season.

National writer David Cobb posted the current CBS Sports Bracketology update for the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds for next year’s NCAA Tournament, and Michigan State didn’t make the cut. The Spartans were left off the graphic, signaling that Michigan State most likely is viewed as a No. 3 seed or potentially lower for CBS Sports’ bracketology.

Here’s the graphic that Cobb posted, which does include a pair of Big Ten teams as No. 2 seeds:

Michigan State is considered by many to be a preseason top 10 team entering next year, with some having them near the top of the national polls. So it’s surprising to see Cobb (or whoever put this bracketology post together) outside of a top two seed. The college basketball season is also more than four months away so it’s hard to put too much merit into any preseason poll or bracket projection at this time.

Regardless, this post caused a reaction from Spartan fans in the comments and certainly got my attention as well. It’ll be interesting to see how things net out over the next few months as we get closer to opening tip on the 2026-27 season.
