Monroe police arrest three in targeted robbery, assault

Three people were arrested at 2:24 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, after allegedly assaulting and robbing a man in Monroe.

According to the Monroe Public Safety Department, the victim had been lured to an abandoned residence by an acquaintance on Friday evening, April 17. When they got there, the victim was assaulted by two men, restrained, and robbed of his personal property, including his vehicle, phone, and wallet.

The victim sustained “visible” injuries, but was able to escape his restraints and seek help from residents nearby, in the 1100 block of East Eight Street. The call came in at 10:46 p.m. and officers responded to the scene.

Investigators determined the victim was specifically targeted and the robbery wasn’t a random act. The suspects were identified and the stolen vehicle was found traveling southbound on I-75 later that evening, being followed by an accomplice vehicle.

Both vehicles were stopped and three suspects, two men and a woman, were taken into custody without incident. They were lodged in the Monroe County Jail and stolen property was recovered.
