WILLIS – Bedford made it a clean sweep.
The Mules took both the boys and girls titles at Saturday’s Lincoln Railsplitters Invitational on Saturday, April 25.
The scores were nearly identical.
The boys scored 130.5 with Grosse Pointe South second at 110.
The girls racked up 129 points to eclipse the host team by 24 oints.
“We had a great day,” said girls coach Tyler Fairchild. “Our field events were huge. Helen Brady was first (discus) and second (shot-put) in the throws and we had three long jumpers place. That set the tone early.”
Brady threw a personal-bst 91-10 in the discus.
Taya Croley, Rachel Burley and Marley Cousino went 3-5-10 in the long jump and Arianna Ali won the pole.
Iva Ravindra had a pair of season bests in winning the 3,200 and taking second in the 1,600.
Croley also was fourth in the 100 and Burley fifth in the 200. Those two ran with Sophya Cole and Kennedy Varner on the second-place 400 relay.
The Mules were third in both the 1,600 and 3,200 relays with Spohia Johnson, Maliah McKibben, Sophia York, Kayloni Nunez, Grace Fredericks, Miranda Fulop, Aubrey Pakulski and Aubrey Miscikowski running legs.
AJ Varner swept the hurdle races to lead the boys while Dane Hieronimus finished first in the 3,200.
The Mules finished 2-3-4 in the pole vault with Cain Cole, Anrew Nelson and Ryan Nelson.
Other seconds came from Cameron Varner (1,600) and Masyn Moran (shot-put). Logan Thomas placed third in the 400, Sawyer Pienta was fourth in the shot-put and fifths came from Bryce McCloud (400) and Jacob Spoonmore (long jump).
SATURDAY’S TOP PERFORMERS
BASEBALL
Tre Eitniear, Whiteford: Blasted a grand slam as on of his five hits during a 17-7, 19-9 sweep of Clinton. Cam Schroyer homered and picked up the win in the first game. Brody Masters, Sammy Miller and Zayne Emch notched three hits each as the Bobcats improved to 8-2 and gave coach Terry Pant his 300th career win.
Jonathan Leffew, Jefferson: Went 3-for-4 including a two-run double, in the opening game of a 10-7, 8-4 sweep of Lincoln Park. The Bears stole 11 bases in the first game including two each by Leffew, Luke Beaudrie and winning pitcher Jake Brewer. Beaudrie and Brewer had two hits apiece in the second game.
Evan Szalay, Flat Rock: Went 2-for-3 from the lead-off spot and stole two bases in a 2-1 victory over Livonia Franklin. Alex Barron and Colten Williams pitched well for the Rams.
GIRLS SOCCER
Brooke Burke, New Boston Huron: Posted her third victory of the week and second shutout as Huron blanked Adrian 3-0. The only goal she gave up during the week came on a penalty kick. Miley Skamiera, Maggie Mentzer and Malaya Singer scored for the Chiefs with Avery Turk and Maddi Wilson picking up assists. Kayla Christesen, Maddie Wilson, Nhi Vo and Maiya Thomas led the defense.
Molly Walline, Milan: Scored off an assist from Abbi Neuhart during a 3-1 loss to Grosse Ile. The Big Reds fell to 3-4-1.
